2009 USA Today Preseason Coaches’ Poll: Nebraska #22

USA Today has just released the 2009 preseason coaches’ poll and to the surprise of no one, Florida was an almost unanimous choice at #1 with 53 of the 59 first place votes.

The Big 12 had just four teams in the Top 25: Texas @ #2, Oklahoma @ #3, Oklahoma State @ #11, and Nebraska @ #22. Receiving votes were Kansas @ #26, Texas Tech @ #28, Missouri @ #34, and Colorado tied @ #53.

Three very important games the first weekend:

  • #5 Alabama vs. # 7 Virginia Tech on September 5th in the Georgia Dome. Va. Tech wins that and Nebraska will get a crack at a Top 5 team on September 19th.
  • #11 Oklahoma State vs. #13 Georgia on September 5th at home. The Cowboys not right outside of the Top 5 surprised me. They’ll get their chance.
  • #14 Oregon travels to #16 Boise State on Thursday, September 3rd.

**Statistic of the Day: Since November 2001, 63 of 65 BCS teams have beaten a Top 19 team. The only two who haven’t? Duke and Nebraska.**
