College Smokeshow of the Week: Ohio U’s Becca

August 21, 2009

This week’s installment brings you a little closer to our old friend, Frank Solich. Solich will be entering his 5th season as head coach at Ohio University and has compiled a 23-26 record overall and a 17-16 record in the MAC. In the summer of 2008, Solich signed an extension that will keep him in Athens until 2013.

A member of the fan base that you can watch cheer on Coach Solich and his Bobcats is none other than this week’s smokeshow, Becca. Becca is an aspiring bikini model with an unknown major. Nonetheless, she’s in college and thus is more than qualified for this.

College Smokeshow of the Week: Oregon’s Katelynn

August 14, 2009

#14 Oregon and #16 Boise State will meet on Thursday, September 3rd in what will be the first marquee game of the season. With one eye on the field and one eye on the sidelines, it should make quite the Thursday.

Meet Katelynn (HT: BC) Katelynn is a senior cheerleader at Oregon and is pursuing her degree in sociology.

Her ambitions in life:

‘Graduate college, get married, have kids, be successful and happy with all I do, and live life to the fullest while having a little fun along the way. ..’

Her hobbies:

‘Dancing, meeting new people/trying new things, outdoor activities, family/friends, painting, writing poetry, relaxing in over sized sweats, eating Red Ropes and Funfetti Cake, and being around positive people.’

Enough with the small talk. Here’s Katelynn in action:

Texas & DXP Undergoing Renovations; Texas Longhorn Cheerleaders Rejoice

July 15, 2009

I thought that since DXP and Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium are both currently receiving some much needed upgrades, then now would be the perfect time to talk about the two.

In 2006, Texas received a $179 million dollar grant from the regents to begin a massive overhaul of Darrell K Royal Stadium. Already completed (2008) is a memorial plaza and a new north end zone structure, which includes an upper deck, club space, suites, athletic offices, academic-advising areas, and new gym space located under the stadium.

In July of 2009, DXP expanded its margins, added a few advertisements, and created a left sidebar as well as a blogger feed where readers can subscribe to posts and comments. Also, already completed is a Twitter account and a new Google search bar that allows readers to search for material directly from the site.
Not to be outdone by a Nebraska blog, Texas has just installed field turf to replace the natural grass as well as just begun the final phase of construction in the south end zone that will house a new Football Academic Center, a new Hall of Fame, and 4,525 permanent bleacher seats. Texas plans to eventually begin constructing an upper deck in the south end zone that will enclose the field and make seating capacity upwards of 112,000 – making it the largest football stadium in the United States (although sources say it may not be completed until the 2024 season.)

Realizing that Texas is setting the bar even higher, DXP has begun construction on a new header/banner that is expected to be completed sometime in the summer of 2009 by one of its readers, Josh. (Thanks Josh!)

You can clearly see that the only glaring difference between the two is that we weren’t given a $179 million dollar grant and we don’t have a concession stand. Nonetheless, I still think we should have a joint celebration. And of course, we asked Texas to provide the girls.
Cue the Texas Longhorn cheerleaders.

Zac Lee’s Smokeshow Sister: Jenna Lee

April 22, 2009

Nebraska’s Zac Lee will no doubt be one of the focal points of the Husker media frenzy this fall as the projected #1 QB heading into the 2009 season. And hopefully, we can all get to know his sister, Jenna Lee, a little better as well.

Jenna Lee is an anchor on Fox Business News and works out of San Francisco, London, and New York City. In addition, Jenna also is a contributor on the television show, Inside Edition. In college, Jenna was a softball player at UC-Santa Barbara before moving on to get her masters in journalism from Columbia University. To read more, visit her Wikipedia page.

Friday Afternoon Delight: Husker Alumna Jenny Kropp

February 13, 2009

On days like this, we should be even prouder to call ourselves Huskers.

Jenny Kropp (from Grand Island, NE) was a middle blocker for the undefeated 2000 Nebraska volleyball team and a second-team All-American in 2001. She earned the AVP Rookie of the Year in 2007 and has won two events already in 2009. Jenny also happens to be a complete smokeshow.

I really don’t have any explanations as to how I missed this one all of this time, but let’s put the past behind us and move forward. I see a bright future between DXP and Jenny.

The Nebraska Volleyball Smokeshows

February 7, 2009

Last Saturday, former Husker volleyball players Rachel Schwartz and Jenny Kropp were part of the Hot Winter Nights Beach Volleyball Tour in Omaha. I’ve been told before that I haven’t shown enough of the Nebraska volleyball players. Quite honestly, I never really was that impressed. Let’s face it, we haven’t exactly had many Amanda Cicchini’s running through Lincoln lately. With many thanks to the AVP volleyball tour, my mind has definitely changed. Rachel and Jenny certainly were the stars of this show. And now that I have discovered professional volleyball player Jenny Kropp from Grand Island, NE, let’s just say DXP is now covering volleyball.
